The fate of this year’s Microsoft Imagine Cup Competition (MICC) contestants will be known during tomorrow’s finals in Sydney, Australia.
Over 60 teams including those from African countries — Nigeria, Senegal, Egypt and Uganda — are taking part in the event. The winning team will get US$10,000 as the ultimate prize.
In the People’s Choice Awards category, the best team will be known after an onling voting exercise.
MICC is a competition by Microsoft that offers opportunities to students in secondary schools, universities and tertiary colleges to work as a team and come up with technological innovations.
The competition targets students from across the globe interested in information communication and technology (ICT) innovation.
Imagine Cup consists of five technology competitions comprising software design and other categories updated annually.
This is the tenth year since the competition was unveiled.
In the previous edition Hermes, a team from Ireland, won the Software Design category for a Windows Phone 7 that is inserted into a car to monitor reckless driving. It comprises of Bing Maps and Windows Azure cloud computing. The group was awarded US$25,000.
MISC has grown tremendously and now boasts of an estimated 358,000 participants from 183 countries globally since it was invented.
