Twitter has introduced two new features to enhance its search functionality, the search autocomplete and ‘People you follow’ search results.
The new simplified search is an addition to recent modifictaions that the microblogging site introduced including related query suggestions, spelling corrections and more relevant search results.
The search autocomplete feature shows users the most likely terms for their query as they type it, set to be useful when following the hashtag for an event or looking for a certain Twitter account.
Users can select query from the drop-down menu even before they finish typing it.
Other modifications introduced are:
* Spelling corrections: If a user misspells a term, Twitter will automatically show results for the intended query.
* Related suggestions: If a user searches for a topic for which people use multiple terms, Twitter will provide relevant suggestions for terms where the majority of that conversation is happening on Twitter.
* Results with real names and usernames: When a user searches for a name like ‘Jeremy Lin,’ he’ll see results mentioning that person’s real name and their Twitter account username.
* Results from people a user follows: In addition to seeing ‘All’ or ‘Top’ tweets for a user’s search, he can also now see tweets about a given topic from only the people he follows when he selects the ‘People you follow’ view. Viewing tweets about a topic from just the people a user follows is a great way to find useful information and join the conversation.
