Research in Motion, the Blackberry Curve-maker, has introduced two new smartphones for the Nigerian market.
The phones, fitted for social media interaction among many other features, include BlackBerry Curve 9320 and BlackBerry Curve 9220.
“BlackBerry Curve smartphones have been extremely popular in Nigeria, offering affordable access to BBM and other popular social networks,” Waldi Wepener, who is the Regional Director for East, West and Central Africa at RIM, said.
The Blackberry Curve phones are one of the latest products to come out of RIM as it was announced in May this year.
The features for the two phones are on a par with Blackberry offers such as email push although they in addition incorporate more of social networking apps. It operates on Blackberry OS 7.1 and has a microSD slot to expand storage up to 32 GBs.
Other features include Easy access to preloaded Twitter and Facebook, RSS feed from various social networks in one stream, photo tagging supported by GPS and even FM radio.
In a statement, the company said: “The new Curve smartphones offer the best keyboards in their class for quick and easy typing, and they even feature a new dedicated BBM key to bring the power of RIM’s popular mobile social network up in an instant. They also offer the longest lasting battery life yet in a BlackBerry Curve smartphone, allowing users to make the most of their day.”
Wepener said that the new compact and stylish BlackBerry Curve models offer improved battery life.
“They also offer truly unique messaging and social networking experience that will appeal especially to Nigerian customers who want to upgrade to a smartphone for the first time, or existing BlackBerry Curve customers looking for a step up in speed and functionality,” Wepener said.
The company announced that the two phones are already in major phone shops and stores across Nigeria.
