Twitter iPhone touted as poised for major upgrade

A new version of Twitter’s iOS app said to sport a slew of enhancements is set for a major release to charge up the mciroblogging site’s users less thrilled with the current version, according to leaked release notes.

Notes by 9to5Mac on the release and screenshots of the iOS 6 App Store appear to divulge a heap of the changes anticipated for Twitter’s iPhone version 4.3.

The touted features include push notifications for tweets users follow, alerts for new stories, enhanced support for password entries, improvements to auto-complete and avatars that direct a user to other’s profile.

Other features include more interactive experiences within particular tweets – including the ability to view images and play videos.

Users who do not favour generic Trends feature will be able to create and customize own trends.

The microblogging site has run into stiff competition with its mobile apps particularly in the face of major rivalry from Tweetbot and Twitterrific. Twitter received a number of complaints late last year after it removed some key features in a later update, notes the Cnet News.

Even as the release notes were discovered as part of the iOS 6 App Store, iPhone and iPad, users may not have to wait until iOS 6 is released.

Notes on the schedule of the launch were unavailable. 9to5Mac however notes that the time between the discovery of the notes “about a new version of Instagram and the update’s actual debut was only 10 days.”
