A 2-day bootcamp organised by Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) is on in Senegal’s capital Dakar.
The event that has drawn entrepreneurs from eight African countries aims to accelerate business and industrialisation in Africa through global networking, entrepreneurship, skill-building, mentorship and planed funding.
According to GIST, the Startup Boot Camp is an extensive interactive training and mentoring event aimed at sparking innovative thinking as well as triggering the creation of new startup ideas among promising entrepreneurs in the ICT, energy, healthcare and agriculture sectors.
The event creates networks at individual and institutional levels among technology developers, investors and the market place. It also provides individualised counsel and industrialist training through presentations and panel discussions.
A start-up pitch competition is currently featured at the event where the winner will be recommended for the October GIST entrepreneurship delegation.
October GIST entrepreneurship delegation invites Africa’s top technology entrepreneurs form Africa, Middle East, and Asia to meet with policy makers and technology entrepreneurs from Silicon Valley, Boston, New York and Washington DC.
The US Department of State funds the GIST. In Africa, it is powered by LION@FRICA, a department of state public-private partnership.
GIST identifies, coaches and funds promising entrepreneurs through competitions start-up services, online social media and interactive advice programs.
It is currently based in 43 countries across Africa and Asia.
The event started yesterday.
