At position three, Algerian Klein team is the only African group that has won an award for the Windows Azure Challenge category during this year’s Microsoft Imagine Cup Competition (MICC).
A Ukrainian team called the QuadSquad won the top prize of US$25,000, under the 2012 Software Design category.
QuadSquad developed a pair of sensory gloves branded as “EnableTalk.” The device translates sign language into speech by use of a Bluetooth-enabled Windows Phone inclusive of Microsoft’s Speech and Bing APIs.
EnableTalk, which targets the deaf and dumb in the society, is meant to improve their social life status by allowing them to communicate effectively in a verbal form, according to its developers.
TANGThai (Thailand) and Drexel Dragon (USA) won this year’s game design section.
The TANGThai team clinched the Xbox/Windows section while Drexel Dragons clinched the mobile category award.
In other categories, position one award winners included, environmental sustainability Greenway team (Germany), Health awareness Italian Ingenium (Italy) and Windows azure challenge virual dreams Metro(Brazil).
The eagerly awaited results of the 5-day presentation finals was announced Tuesday in Sydney Australia. Next year’s edition will be held in St.Petersburg, Russia. It is now a decade since the event was unveiled.
The annual competition is organised by Microsoft to offer Students an opportunity to participate in technology innovation battles.
According to Microsoft, over 1.65 million students from across the globe have participated in the competition.
