Ethiopia’s government has launched an energy mapping database tagged the Ethiopian Energy Sector Mapping and Database Project.
The database system will map areas in Ethiopia and their sources of energy. The country’s water and energy ministry alongside GIZ-ECO had collaborated to study the various sources of energy.
Staff from the partner organisations collected energy supply data, on the supply of biomass energy, electricity and hydrocarbons, from the selected states and districts.
The data was later entered into the new database for tabling and mapping.
Ethiopia’s State Minister for Water and Energy Wondimu Tekle said the project required partnership with federal, state and governmental institutions as well as a group of eight domestic senior energy consultants headed by a consulting firm called PROCEED.
The partners plan to begin on the second phase of the project soon, which will collect data nationally to update the national biomass inventory, energy consumption survey and improve database system.
The organisation will this time round build the capacity of the energy data management operations across the country.
