You hardly find a tech event focused on improving learning of technology in primary and secondary schools in Africa without the agenda being to only equip the kids with computers and laptops.
Tech-In Education is an event focusing on technology innovation and application to improve learning amongst Nigerian primary and secondary school students.
Developers and entrepreneurs in Nigeria gather to mingle with educationists and parents, and eventually to come up with the web and mobile applications providing solutions for improving the education system. Behind the event is an open living lab in Lagos, Co-creation Hub.
First part of the event – a meet up in Lagos December last year, brought together entrepreneurs and education stakeholders to discuss range of possibilities of technology inventions that could enhance technology learning in the formative years of a child’s education. In February hopefully direct results of the discussions will be seen at the open living lab event.
Why insist on grooming the younger population technology-wise? Africa needs numbers! If the continent is to establish itself as a primary ICT hub in the coming years, technology needs to be taught in the lower levels of education.
