The social-networking giant Facebook has acquired Spool, a startup renowned for having developed a mobile-bookmarking service.
Spool, which focuses on mobile content consumption, a field Facebook appears to want to concentrate in, is said to have however shut down its bookmarking service that never even made it out of beta.
According to Cnet News, users were sent an email with their entire bookmarks in an attached file named “bookmarks.html.”
The San Francisco-based startup is reported to have suggested to its users to move their bookmarks to its competitors Pocket or Delicious. In a post, Spool instructs its users on how to import bookmarks to other services.
Facebook will however be going for Spool’s five major employees, not its technology.
The five have already been reported to be moving to work for Facebook.
In a statement, Facebook said the Spool team has “deep expertise’ in mobile software development which it would tap.
“We’re excited for the team to join and accelerate their vision at Facebook,” the statement said.
Further details of the disclosure were not made although the process seems like a “talent acquisition” as the giant social networking site will not be going for the technology behind the mobile-bookmarking service.
