Burkina Faso engineers to get water technology training

Engineering students in Burkina Faso will be taught latest water metering technology in a bid to improve water resource management in the country. The training will be offered by two nonprofits – Itron Partners in partnership with 2iE Foundation.

Itron and 2iE training course will focus on water metering fundamentals and water resource management solutions.

2iE, a nonprofit organization based in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, promotes public interests within Africa. It is an energy and water resource management solutions serving more than 8,000 utilities around the world with electricity, gas, water and thermal energy measurement and control technology; communications systems, software, and professional services.

Monsieur Paul Giniès, managing director of 2iE Foundation said: “Itron will support 2iE to develop capacities and competencies with professionals and students focusing on water resources in the public or private sector. I’m very pleased Itron is willing to share its expertise in water metering solutions through comprehensive trainings.”

2iE will come up with training manuals for the students and practising engineers in water management.

“Itron is passionate about being good stewards of water, life’s most vital resource. Our work with 2iE will give people in the industry in Africa the proficiency they need to better manage and conserve their water supply,” said Marcel Regnier, president and COO, Itron Water.

This training will help curb the increasing water scarcity and sanitation crises facing the country as a whole. The faulty water systems affect water distribution in the country amidst its increasing population.

To help middle class and disadvantaged populations access a world class education, 2iE has developed an innovative pricing policy as well as financing and payment arrangements. The nonprofit has trained more than 2600 students and about 1000 engineering in water technology, sanitation, energy and electricity, civil and mining engineering, and the environment.
