Yesterday saw 23 students graduate following a 4-month mobile training at the mLab in Nairobi, Kenya.
The students, who were taken through the months of training and then incubation, came up with various applications that could see them establish their own companies.
The graduation, which was attended by the ministry of information and communication permanent secretary in Dr. Bitange Ndemo, saw the students awarded with certifications.
One of the students Victor Karanja shared his experience in the training.
He opted to go for mobile training because according to him, “the mobile market was bigger than the Web.” Karanja also explained that the training was meant to bring up entrepreneurs not employees.
The applications for the training programme at mLab, amounted to over 250 applications but only 23 could qualify for the training.
Patrick Mutahi and Jacob Mwema were awarded with a special prize as their projects M-Verified, a document verification app and M-Tracker, a mobile vehicle tracker, were recognized as most promising.
Jacob Mwema through his company FOMOBI won the recently concluded Tandaa Grant challenge organized by the government through the ICT board, which puts him on an advantage level.
The graduation ceremony was attended by representatives of Nokia, Samsung, Google, Emobilis and Inmobi.
