mShop looking to stretch across East Africa

Online ticketing is still a concept not totally embraced in Africa. But one startup has aimed to make it a success in Kenya and eventually in East Africa.

mShop is an online ticketing system which is available on web and also on mobile through apps. The service currently includes bus ticketing, event tickets, taxi bookings, air ticketing and movie tickets.

HumanIPO talked to the Senior Sales Executive, Don Okoth, to find out how the mobile and web ticketing business is fairing.

“MShop started about a year ago but launched actively last year in December, “Dan said. “Users simply download the app in their phone and they can book different services from their phones.”

The idea is grand, but not without challenges. “Most companies don’t have online systems available,” Don explained.

Most companies don’t see the need to invest in an automated online system. So Mshop had to build the system for some of their clients.

Right now the company is working to intergrate their system with Phoenix players where patrons would buy tickets through their mobile.

The company has seen over 500 downloads of its app since they launched. This is encouraging but they plan to advertise and market across Africa.

“In the future we plan to franchise the MShop system across East Africa,” Don told HumanIPO. They also plan to market the software socially where it will see more merchants recruited.
