Telkom “poaches” Samsung SA’s MD

Samsung’s South Africa MD Deon Liebenberg has taken over as Telkom’s MD in the business section. Reports from Telkom’s media relations department reveal Lienbenberg reported to work yesterday.

However, Samsung South Africa claims it is not aware of its chief’s departure and that he is still the employee of the company.

Telkom Business Managing Director Brian Armstrong said, “We are happy to have Lienbenberg in our firm. With his experience and immense knowledge, he will ensure Telkom business benefits.”

Before joining Samsung, Lienbenberg worked at Research In Motion (RIM) as vice president and managing director Africa, Motorola South Africa manager, Vodacom CEO sales department, and the executive head of sales at Vodacom.

His responsibility will be to come up with strategies that will foster development in the Telkom Business mobile division.

Lienbenberg’s appointment is viewed as Telkom’s move to establish itself as the leading telecommunications company in South Africa.

Samsung is a South Korean company that deals with electronics and information technology products in 61 countries globally. The company introduced Samsung Galaxy S Cellphone in 2011 and made the highest sales worldwide. It is also establishing tablet computer market by unveiling Android-powered Samsung Galaxy Tab posing stiff competition to iPad manufactured by Apple.

Telkom Group is a telecommunications provider in South Africa providing services to more than 38 countries in Africa.
