Zimbabwe’s Telecel reaches 2-million subscriber milestone

Zimbabwe mobile service provider Telecel Zimbabwe has reported that its subscribers have reached the 2 million mark and continue to increase as demand for mobile services grows in the Southern African country.

Telecel Zimbabwe chief commercial officer Ashraf Elguindy said the number has increased from 1.5 million subsrcibers in December 2011.
Elguindy said: “The last two years or so have been an exciting period for Telecel. We have led the way within the mobile telecommunications sector in reducing costs and making mobile communications affordable for everyone.”
Telecel is rumoured to be the cheapest mobile service provider in the country after it introduced new packages.
Despite increasing subscriber numbers, it still faces a hurdle of not having “satisfactory network coverage across Zimbabwe” as compared to its competitors.
Zimbabwe has seen an increase in access to telecommunications services in the last three years.
