Airtel yesterday launched mobile 3.75G network in Madagascar. Internet users in the country can now benefit from improved Internet access, enhanced multimedia functionality and high speed mobile broadbands.
Sources at Airtel comment the 3.75G platform will trigger changes on the Web and Internet technology set to spur the country’s socio-economic progress.
Airtel Madagascar, Director, Heiko Schlittke, said the firm’s clients will enjoy the 3.75G technology by enabling access to fast Internet and data “by just clicking on the button.”
The gadget allows users to make video calls, download music as well as send and receive emails.
It won’t be an obstacle as a result of high speed cellphone broadband and Internet availability, Schlittk said.
“The telecommunications services is decisive in economic growth and this is a good plan to start with. Communication is a basic need but not a privilege in smoothening the progress of social, cultural and business contribution in any area. We encourage our customers to make maximum use of Internet and mobile phones.” Schlittke concluded.
Airtel has taken a firm course in building the continent’s largest 3.75G platform. Earlier this month, the company launched the service in Rwanda. Other countries with the 3.75G comprise Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia, Ghana and Sierra Leone.
Airtel Africa covers some 16 countries across Africa and boasts of more than 400 million subscribers. There are about 2.5 million subscribers in Madagascar.
