LinkedIn essays user appeal with new language

After launching a “simpler” homepage, LinkedIn has gone further to introduce Norwegian language to its professional social network. It is expected this will make it easier for Norwegian speaking professionals to communicate, collaborate and share information.

LinkedIn said that providing international languages on the network has been central and key to their global expansion. The site is also available in 17 other languages including English, Czech, Dutch, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish.
There are already over 600,000 Norwegian members on LinkedIn, which is already the world’s largest professional network with 161 million members worldwide. LinkedIn is reportedly one of the fastest-growing social media platforms in Norway.
Fredrik Bernsel, LinkedIn’s director in the Nordics, said that unlike many parts of mainland Europe, Norway’s economic growth is accelerating thanks to record investments in its offshore oil and gas fields.
“For a robust economy such as Norway’s, the introduction of LinkedIn in the native language will prove a powerful tool for our members here, who are using LinkedIn to share and exchange knowledge and ideas and to do business in a way never done before,” said Bernsel.
LinkedIn continues to be one of Africa’s popular online destinations. It is hoped that LinkedIn will also introduce African languages to its offerings to attract more African users to its professional networking site, as recently demonstrated by Google.

A recent report by Zoomsphere, a global social statistics site, showed that there is a lot of opportunities for growth for LinkedIn in Africa.

LinkedIn is estimated to have about 5.7 million users in Africa. South Africa leads with an estimated 1,7 million users followed by Nigeria with 657,000, Egypt 544,000, Kenya 400,000 and Morocco with about 352,000.
