Vodacom reduces UK international roaming rates

After recently launching new smartphone plans known as “smart plans,” Vodacom, a South Africa-based cellular network operator, has now reduced the service charges for its South African customers travelling to the UK.

In a statement, Vodacom said its South African customers travelling to the United Kingdom (UK) are set to enjoy savings of up to 100 percent on international roaming charges.
The reduction in charges is applicable to Vodacom’s Prepaid, Contract and Top Up customers and will begin from 20 July to 16 September 2012.
Local calls in the UK will now cost Vodacom the customers 60 percent less while customers will save 76 percent on calls to South Africa, 45 percent on text messages and 71 percent on data roaming charges.
Also, customers will not be charged anything for receiving calls during the promotional period stipulated.
Minnie Maharaj, Managing Executive of Wholesale and International Services at Vodacom, said Vodacom is always looking at ways of providing value to its roaming customers.

“In April this year, we reduced data roaming rates by more than 70 percent for customers travelling to six African countries where Vodacom and Vodafone operate. Now we’re offering customers travelling to the UK up to 100 percent savings so they can stay connected to their friends and loved ones without worrying about the cost,” Maharaj said.
