Safaricom unveils promotional offer dubbed ‘Wakenya Tuongee’

Safaricom yesterday launched a promotional offer branded ‘Wakenya Tuongee’ (Kenyans Let’s Talk) focused on persuading subscribers to make longer voice calls — at a calling rate of 75 percent discount.

Safaricom’s chief executive Bob Collymore said the company will continue giving customers special offers to reward them so they can continue communicating and experience the firm’s services.

He further explained that according to the company’s report majority of customers talk less than two minutes hence the new offer will reward customers ‘more talk time” to allow them communicate more with their families, friends and business people at affordable prices.
Subscribers wishing to enjoy the offer will have to part with KSh4 (US$0.05) for the first minute of calling then one and two minutes at KSh2 (US$ 0.02). Two to three minutes costs KSh3 (US$0.04) while after 3-minute calls will cost KSh1 (US$ 0.01).
Only pre-paid users making calls from “Safaricom to Safaricom” will benefit.

‘Wakenya Tuongee,’ which begins today, will run from from 6am to 6pm until August 23.

Safaricom customers can subscribe to the offer by dialing *777#.

Other promotional offers include Short Messaging Services (SMS) which was introduced in 2010.One can get unlimited SMS at a cost of KSh10 (US$0.12) and 20 SMS at KSh 5(US$0.06).
Safaricom is currently the number one mobile network operator in Kenya established in 1997.It currently has an estimated 19 million subscribers, according to Communication Commission of Kenya (CCK).
With the latest development, other cellphone service providers in the country, including Yu Essar, Airtel Kenya and Orange, are also expected to launch promotional offers in response.
