Nigerian telecoms operators assure users of improved service quality in 2013

Nigerian telecoms subscribers have been assured by the Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) of an improvement in the quality of services being offered by the various network service providers operating in Nigeria in 2013.

Gbenga Adebayo, ALTON Chairman, revealed the ongoing upgrade of service networks by the various companies with the goal of ensuring improved quality services henceforth.

According to Adebayo, Nigerian telecoms subscribers ought to be getting the kind of qualitative services they paid for.

“Telecoms operators are still upgrading their facilities to meet the growing number of subscribers that are increasing exponentially every day. We will improve on our network capacity so as to nip in the bud the issues of call drop, poor quality of voice signal, poor reception and poor inter-connectivity with other networks,” he said.

According to the ALTON head, telecoms operators are passionate about making their networks more robust and resilient.

“Telecoms operators had invested heavily in building additional base stations in the underserved and unserved areas,” he said.

He then advised the government to secure telecoms facilities and installations across the country.

“The bombing of telecoms outfits and the devastating floods affected a number of our base transceiver stations across the country in 2012 which had significant impact on the quality of services. We are hoping that in 2013, government will assist us to secure critical telecoms infrastructure that can affect the quality of service,” Adebayo added.

HumanIPO reported yesterday the National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers (NATCOMS) had called on the government to pass the Telecoms Equipment Bill which would give more protection to communications infrastructure.
