The Tanzanian Ministry of Communication, Science and Technology is seeking TZS246 billion (US$152 million) to aid in the construction of communication towers for more than 200 villages.
Daily News reports the government has become unhappy with the flow of finances from the World Bank to the Universal Communication Services Access Fund (UCSAF) tasked with raising funds to ensure telecommunications reaches as many parts of Tanzania as possible.
Deputy minister January Makamba told the Tanzanian parliament yesterday that talks with India to roll out the funds through the Ministry for Finance are underway.
“If we get the funds we will be in a position to connect all areas that almost many members of parliament have been requesting to be connected with telecommunication services,” he said.
January said he would keep on reminding the various companies to honour their promises and connect the waiting wards.
HumanIPO reported recently Kenya received a US$35.5 million fund for a county project to enhance efficient communication.
