Residents of Jarra Central in Gambia’s Lower River Region have slammed the dismal network coverage, appealing to three of Gambia’s providers to expand their network.
According to the residents, only Africell offers telecommunications services in the region while others, Gamcel, Comium and Qcell, are yet to add Jarra Central.
Borry Dampha, Head of Jarra Central, speaking on behalf of the community, encouraged the major operators to start providing services in the area in order for the community to start benefitting from what others are already enjoying.
He also described as unfortunate the reluctance of the network to commence operations in the community since they’ve already spread to other parts of the nation, even those that are further away from Jarra Central district.
Bakary Sanyang, of Jappine Marikoto, agreed with Dampha on the confusion surrounding the absence of the three operators in the district.
“It is now high time for them to be considered after some years of establishment in the country,” he said.
Lamin Yaffa, a representative of Q Cell, said the company has already identified the Lower River Region as a region where the company needs to expand its coverage. He added it is part of Q Cell’s action plan for the New Year and said the company has already built an extension at Pakaliba in Jarra East which will cover the entire district.
He encouraged residents to be patient with the company and promised every Gambian citizen will have coverage in the near future.
Comium’s spokesperson gave a similar response and guaranteed the district will receive coverage this year.
