Safety app SHOUT SA now available on Windows 8

The SHOUT SA safety app is now available on the Windows 8 platform, according to its creators, who describe it as an “app against crime in South Africa”.

The development and deployment of the app on the Windows 8 platform was co-sponsored by Trellidor and Microsoft SA.

According to Trellidor’s sales and marketing director Peter Rawson, the SHOUT app was designed as a tool for crime-conscious South Africans.

“It gives us important information that we can use proactively, and tools to interact with like-minded people within our communities,” he said.

The key features of the app include location-based crime reporting, dynamic map representation, location-based emergency phone numbers and social media integration.

Users can also create crime hotspot notifications, do a crime search or report a crime, while the app also has SOS alert functionality and allows users to share information through their personal social media platforms.

“We felt there was natural synergy between Trellidor, Microsoft SA, SHOUT SA and Cytrus in that we’re all committed to making positive moves towards a safer life for all instead of just passively complaining about the crime statistics and the apparent lack of improvement,” said Rawson.

“The SHOUT App not only helps individuals when they are faced with a crime situation, but it turns us all into citizen activists,” added Gavin Koppel, chairman of SHOUT.

Crime in South Africa is rampant, especially contact crimes such as murder, attempted murder, sexual offences, grievous bodily harm, common assault, aggravated robbery and common robbery.

The app is available to BlackBerry and Android users.
