MyCiTi now visible on Google Maps

Cape Town’s public transport system MyCiTi has launched on Google Maps, a national first for commuter results from the online mapping platform.

The integrated South African rapid transport system created by World Wide Creative (WWC) now provides point to point directions through Google Maps.

Providing customisable journey settings to MyCiTi users around the City of Cape Town, the new map-based appearance serves citizens with an innovative solution simplifying transport.

Mike Perk, managing director of WWC, said: “This was an opportunity for WWC to lead the way when it comes to this kind technology and now, for the first time, members of the public will be able to have access to all the information about MyCiTi at the touch of a button.”

More releases of the Google Maps-based feature can be expected.

Speaking on the partnership between MyCiTi and Google Maps, Luke McKend, country director of Google South Africa, said: “Together we can provide useful and accurate information to help people quickly get to where they want to go.”

HumanIPO reported last month on McKend saying location is one of the key factors in bridging the online-offline gap in South Africa.
