Microsoft’s operating system for personal computers Windows 8 upgrade will start retailing at $119.99 from $39.99 on February 1, as the software’s promotional offer ends on January 31.
The promotion was intended to enable Windows users with older versions of the operating system including Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 access the newer version at cheaper rates by upgrading online.
According to some market analysts, the move to raise the prices of the new version that has sold over 60 million licenses could indicate of Microsoft’s confidence with the OS that performs almost like the Windows 7 version.
‘Windows 8 upgrade editions will be priced as follows in February:
*The Windows 8 Pro upgrade edition will be available online and at retail for $199.99 MSRP (U.S.).
*The Windows 8 upgrade edition will be available online and at retail for $119.99 MSRP (U.S.).
*The Windows 8 Pro Pack will cost $99.99 MSRP (U.S.).
*The Windows 8 Media Center Pack will cost $9.99 MSRP (U.S.).’
Another offer to be close on the same date includes those upgrading using CD for $69.99.
Microsoft’s communications manager Brandon LeBlanc said the version has seen increased momentum in the past few days pegging the success of the OS on its beautiful start screen with live tiles, longer battery life, faster start up as well as a more familiar desktop.
Windows 7 version users who bought the OS after June 2, 2012 will however continue accessing the upgrade for $14.99 until end of February.
