Samsung launches new Wi-Fi fridge

The Samsung T9000 refrigerator connects with Wi-Fi to the home network and features world first functions such as a triple cooling system, expiry date management and recipe note functions.

“The fridge, because it’s the hub of the family and the kitchen, is now another access point without having to drag around your tablet or have your phone with you in the vicinity of where you’re cooking or entertaining,” said Warner Doell, Vice President of Home Appliances at Samsung Canada.

The worldwide release is scheduled for first half of this year at a recommended retail price of US$3,999.

One of the revolutionary edges of this refrigerator is the humidity removal system, operated by two compressors, three evaporators and a series of sensors and LCD display, which maintains optimal humidity to keep food fresh to ensure maximum lasting period.

Different Android driven apps are also available to further manage the content of the fridge, for example Epicurious for recipes, Evernote for taking down the kitchen notes and Fridgepal for keeping track of expiry dates.

“You can say, ‘I have these ingredients in the fridge what can I make?’ and it will show you recipes that you can prepare,” explained Doell.

Fridge lovers are not obligated to leave for weather updates, social media posts or to check the calendar as these are all possible from the refrigerator door.

“The technology is converging across all product categories. With appliances being the traditional staid industry, it has not been fast to adopt it,” said Doell, emphasising that Samsung will take the lead in the technology advanced home.

The pre-launch model featured at the CES 2013 two weeks ago.
