Metropolitan Bank has suffered at the hands of malicious hackers after its website was hacked and defaced earlier in the week by a group calling themselves “Qifwhysoserious”.
This follows a recent spate of websites in Zimbabwe being hacked and defaced, as reported by TechZim.
The increase in attacks is reported to be as a result of more companies going online, therefore opening themselves up to the risk of being hacked, as well as a lack of IT security skills in the Southern African country.
The Metropolitan Bank website is said to have been running on the Joomla Content Management System (CMS). It was developed and hosted by companies based in Zimbabwe.
When this article was published, the website was still not live and displays a sign that reads “Under Maintenance, Come Back Soon”.
