A survey carried out across Nigeria by Richardson Konsult, a Lagos-based opinion poll center, has revealed teenagers in the North Central and South East geo-political zones use social media the most.
The report also revealed Facebook tops the list of social media platforms used and respondents in North Central and South East regions described Facebook as their preferred social media website.
Seventy-three percent of teenagers use the Internet for social purposes in the North Central part of the country, while more than 50 percent of the teenagers in the South West, North West and South East use it for socialising.
However, the Richardson Konsult survey revealed that fewer teenagers in the South South are using the internet for social networking.
“The findings here have established a trend: teenagers across the country are forming the habit of making and chatting with friends using the social media platforms as against visiting them for their academic purposes.”
The firm carried out the survey between October and November 2012 among students of Senior Secondary School who were selected to participate in the poll from all the geopolitical zones of the country.
The survey was however not conducted in the North East as a result of the security challenges being experienced in the region.
