The malicious malware developed by hackers that steals online banking credentials and information from Skype has finally been “blocked” by Microsoft.
HumanIPO reported last week that the hackers behind the Shylock project were targeting African countries through the popular video calling service.
Microsoft has now confirmed the Shylock threat of spreading through Skype has been “blocked”.
Although still advising users not to click on suspicious links and to avoid visiting suspicious websites, Microsoft says it has helped many of its customers completely block “the known malware documented as Backdoor:Win32/Capchaw.N, also known as Shylock”, it is reported.
More importantly, to ensure users do not suffer an attack from Shylock it is recommended to install security software that has malware detection and update it with the latest virus definitions.
It is also advised users download the latest version of the popular VoIP software, Skype.
