BlackBerry World for BB10 to include Music, Movies and TV Shows

With the BlackBerry 10 (BB10) launch just a day away, Research In Motion (RIM) has revealed BlackBerry World will not just be an App Store, but also have music and video content.

The new offering from BlackBerry is said to feature content from all major studios, music labels and top broadcast networks and translates into an extensive catalogue of songs, movies and TV shows.

Unfortunately for BlackBerry users in Africa the video download and rental section in BlackBerry World will initially only be available in the US, UK and Canada with no mention as to when these services will be available on the continent.

In the relevant markets, most of the movies will be available on BlackBerry World on the same day they are released on DVD, with next day availability for many of the current TV shows.

RIM hopes the new BlackBerry World will bolster its plans to recover from the financial slump it has endured over the past couple of years as it has experienced dwindling sales of its smartphones, as users mostly in Europe and America have shunned them in favour of Android powered smartphones and Apple’s iPhones.
