Security operatives of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 20 youths over allegations of cybercrimes.
According to a statement released by the EFCC, the suspects were arrested in Benin, the capital city of Edo state.
Commission spokesman Wilson Uwujaren said the commission had received an intelligence report on the illegal operations of the suspects.
“Following intelligence report on their activities, they were nabbed in a surprise raid on their Cyber office tucked in an old building located on Siluko Road, Benin City,” Uwujaren said.
According to him, the commission carried out the raid in conjunction with officers from the 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Benin. He said the suspects were mostly in their twenties and that they were arrested with several laptops, phones, Internet modems and a car.
“At the point of arrest, the fraudsters had in their possession forty five (45) laptops of different make, twenty eight telephone sets, eight internet mobile modems and one Nissan car with registration number USL 375 AG,“ said the EFCC spokesman.
He also stated that the commission is concluding its investigations on the case, and the suspects will soon be charged to a law court.
