Vodacom Tanzania has entered into a partnership with Oilcom, a Tanzania-based oil company, allowing motorists in the country to pay for fueling services through mobile money platform M-Pesa.
“This new partnership will go a long way in embracing technology in the energy sector as mobile money transaction becomes crucial in today’s world,” Salum Mwalim, external relations manager at Vodacom Tanzania, said.
“In a society where carrying cash in the pocket is becoming increasingly unsafe, M-Pesa has stepped to act as an alternative medium.”
Mohamed Said Nahdi, managing director at Oilcom, said: “With our service stations spread across the country, motorists are assured of coming across one of our stations and fuel their vehicles with M-Pesa facilitating the process.
“It is easier to have a cash-loaded mobile phone than carry hard-cash, we hope motorists will make good use of this new partnership.”
Oilcom currently operates more than 75 service stations in the country with Vodacom’s M-Pesa having more than 55,000 agents spread across Tanzania.
