Airtel Rwanda plans to award 10 free mobile phones every week in a bid to support increasing mobile penetration in the East African country.
Mobile phone usage is expected to reach seven million by January and Airtel’s prizegiving is part of its Birahebuje promotion.
“For Rwandans to have financial inclusion and access to quick and reliable internet, we need to set the platform by providing them phones,” said Marcellin Paluku, Airtel Rwanda managing director, reports the New Times. “It’s this device that will help to enjoy our services.”
Mobile phone penetration is currently at 63.7 per cent, according to the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Agency (RURA).
