Orange has assured its customers on the prepaid network of 25 percent bonus airtime for every new topup they make between February and March.
Orange Kenya, also Telkom Kenya Limited, said the customers can afterwards use the bonus to make phone calls, send messages or access data within seven days.
The offer applies on all methods of topups from scratch cards, Orange Money or e-Jaze, which uses the Internet for topups.
Orange’s “We’ll Top Up Your Top Up Campaign” comes after the fall in mobile subscriptions reported by Communications Commission of Kenya (CCK) statistics.
According to the CCK, Orange lost 0.9 percent of its subscriptions. The company further shed its market share in the period under review by 0.3 percent, falling to 10.2 percent.
It is an increase in voice traffic that the company is likely targeting the most, having experienced slower growth than the rest of the industry in the last few months.
The promotion is in line with CCK recommendations that operators should encourage more creative products to encourage a surge in subscriptions.
“Even as operators offer attractive promotions and special offers, this will undoubtedly bring about increased subscriptions and growth in traffic during the coming periods,” CCK noted.
