Samsung Electronics has partnered with MultiChoice Kenya, a pay TV company, to run a promotion that rewards consumers with a free decoder for each purchase of a television set.
Samsung Electronics Kenya’s general manager Allan Oyier hailed the joint venture with MultiChoice as a win-win between the two top brands and the consumer. He said the partnership is intended to connect more Kenyans to the digital entertainment world as they can access multiple options from television viewing.
“A consumer needs to buy a TV worth at least KSh23,995 (approx US$274) and walk away with a free Dstv and GOtv decoder,” he said, as quoted by the Standard. “By going digital, consumers will able to watch multiple channels in digital quality from DSTV or GOtv decoders.”
The two-month promotion, which begins this week, is subject to availability of stocks, Samsung said.
The bundled offer, estimated to be worth KSh68 million (approx US$776,000), will reward consumers with a fully installed and activated decoder from MultiChoice Kenya in addition to a one month free subscription following every purchase of a Samsung LED or Plasma television.
Oyier pointed out that the Samsung TV brands, which combine triple protector, amazing picture quality and energy saving technology, are tailored for the African market.
MultiChoice Kenya’s general manager Danny Mucira explained the benefits of the analogue to digital broadcasting migration, saying by going digital consumers will be able to watch “lots of exciting” entertainment from either DStv or GOtv.
According to him, digital television offers more viewership benefits compared to analogue. He urged Kenyans to positively embrace new technology to enjoy quality viewership and diversity in programming.
