Buni TV hits 1 million views

Buni TV, a major African video-on-demand platform, has announced it has reached the one million views milestone, with 60 percent of its traffic originating from Africa alone.

This represents an increase of 300,000 in page views in three months on the company’s Web and mobile sites.

“We are thrilled to report these numbers. One million views is a big milestone for Buni TV and an impressive number for an African startup to reach in just nine months,” said Buni TV founder and chief executive Marie Lora-Mungai.

Out of the one million page views, 33 percent of Buni TV’s total traffic and 77 percent of new visits originated from mobile devices, confirming the platform’s promise to strongly target mobile users.

Last year, the platform hit 90,000 page views in just two months following its launch, witnessing over 1,500 hours of video watched within the same period.

“This not only tells us that Kenyan and African audiences are indeed ready to discover video content online, but also that Buni TV has a huge potential for growth in other countries in Africa and beyond,” Lora-Mungai told HumanIPO in a previous interview.

Owned by Buni Media, a multimedia company based in Kenya’s capital Nairobi and Los Angeles in California, Buni TV is a Web and mobile digital video distribution platform focusing on African content.

Buni Media is also the production outlet behind the The XYZ Show, Africa’s first political satire programme featuring life-size latex puppets. It is reported that the show reaches an audience of more than eight million people every month through its various platforms.
