College Campus and Kalahari launch mobile learning

College Campus, a company specialising in offering digital education to college students, has partnered with e-commerce site Kalahari to bring mobile learning to learners in South Africa.

This partnership aims to offer students an easier learning platform through mobile devices such as Galaxy Tabs.

The content will be powered by Kalahari. According to College Campus, all diploma students who sign the 2013 registration contract and pay their deposits or settle in full, will receive a Samsung Galaxy Tab2 P3100 7” 8GB with Wi-Fi. They can upgrade to a Samsung Galaxy Tab2 P5100 10” 16GB with Wi-Fi, by paying in R1,000 (US$112).

The new venture ensures that 60 percent of books needed by college students can be found, downloaded and read using an inbuilt e-reader in the tablets.

“A recent excerpt from a mobile learning conference paper points out that in the developing world, mobile learning is not just about having the right content, on the right device, for the right person, at just the right time, but also having it at just the right cost, something our partnership with Kalahari and the technology provided by Samsung allows us to do,” said College Campus MD, Genevieve Allen.

Kalahari.com’s academic project manager John Edward Jacobs added that the digital space is poised to explode in South African education.

“Most particularly, we are excited about our pioneering solution: we are able to pre-load the students’ digital textbook purchases onto their tablets, resolving untold logistical and supply issues,” he said.

ldquo; This means that on the first day of class, once the students register their kalahari.com ereader applications, they will immediately have access to all of their unique digital content on their Samsung devices.”

This offer will be to diploma students but higher certificate and degree students have an option to purchase the Samsung Galaxy Tab at a reduced rate.
