App developer FiftyThree has urged Facebook to stop using its brand name after the social network announced a new app called Paper last week.
FiftyThree released its mobile sketching app for iPad, also called Paper, in 2012 and in the period of a few months won Apple’s App of the Year.
Facebook’s app, designed by Facebook Creative Labs, provides a radical overhaul to its user interface.
FiftyThree said the release of the Facebook app has caused confusion among its customers.
“We reached out to Facebook about the confusion their app was creating, and they apologised for not contacting us sooner. But an earnest apology should come with a remedy,” said Georg Petschnigg, co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of FiftyThree.
“There’s a simple fix here. We think Facebook can apply the same degree of thought they put into the app into building a brand name of their own. An app about stories shouldn’t start with someone else’s story. Facebook should stop using our brand name.”
