WeChat positive about SA entry

Chinese social app WeChat is optimistic of achieving success in the South African market after it was released in the country on Wednesday.

HumanIPO reported earlier today on the recent launch and unique features.

Speaking to HumanIPO, WeChat’s South African consultant Brett Loubser said: “I believe prospects for success in South Africa are excellent.”

The mobile social service will compete against South African Mxit, American WhatsApp and the BlackBerry chat feature BlackBerry Messenger (BBM).

Android, iOS, Windows Phone and BlackBerry owners can download it for free.

Loubser added: “In terms of prospects for the market, I do believe WeChat offers a really great user experience with some unique features that will be really well received in our local market.

“Group chatting is popular in South Africa, and WeChat supports large groups, as well as some fun new features like animated emoticons and voice chat.”

Loubser declined to share any details on achievement goals at present.
