AITEC Africa has announced the postponement of its conference on banking and mobile money due to be held on March 12 and 13 in Lagos until July, due to the recent suspension of the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
According to Nick Fairbairn, sales manager at AITEC Africa, the organisers regret the inconveniences the postponement will cause prospective participants.
“For a number of reasons, including the recent dismissal of the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, we have decided to postpone AITEC Banking & Mobile Money Lagos until the 15-16 of July,” he said.
“The Central Bank is an important partner for the conference and its current state of transition makes it impossible for it to provide its usual level of input for the event.
“We regret any inconvenience this change may cause you. We have set the new dates for Lagos in the week following our AITEC Banking & Mobile Money Accra on the 9-10 of July, which will enable international participants to cover both events with one trip to the region.”
HumanIPO reported last month Lagos would host the event.
“African banks have a great challenge in overcoming their heritage of colonial banking, which was designed to cater primarily for government, corporate and high-worth individuals,” AITEC said. “The bottom part of the pyramid has been badly neglected. Now that the mobile operators are setting the pace in terms of providing low-cost banking services, banks are scrambling to catch up. This they can do not only through technological innovation, but also through a customer-oriented corporate culture and service innovation.”
