The impact of Africans in the diaspora has been described as having positive and negative effects on the continent’s economy.
Kwabena Oppong Boateng, founder of Ghana Decides, was speaking at the Social Media Week Lagos session Who Needs the African Diaspora? Is the Diaspora relevant? this afternoon.
He said Africans in the diaspora are contributing a value of billions of dollars to the continent’s economy and are also more favored to get lucrative jobs.
Boateng added they are preferred by companies due to the notion that the schools outside Africa are better than those inside it.
Africans are starting to come back home however because the western economies in America and Europe are on a downturn, while Africa is booming.
The panel also featured Africa’s tweet queen, Kathleen Ndongmo, and Professor George Ayitteh, of Free Africa Foundation, who joined live via Google Hangout.
