FNB first SA bank to offer Google Nexus 7 with added banking app

First National Bank (FNB) has come up with an offer including the ASUS Google Nexus 7 3G and Wi-Fi tablet with the aim of boosting self-service banking numbers.

“Digital Banking via the latest devices is a critical strategy at FNB. We are driving down banking costs via our digital channels and we are offering the very latest technology to our customers,” said Kartik Mistry, Head of Smart Devices at FNB Core Banking Solutions.

The bank offers the device at R169 (US$69) per month over two years, as part of other smartphone and tablet deals with 140,000 available devices since October 2011.

A preloaded, inhouse-developed banking app accompanies the device, as well as free 3GB data for ADSL surfing on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and LinkedIn between 7pm and 11pm.

The Android version of the FNB Banking App for tablets is also compatible with Nexus.

“The eagerly anticipated Nexus device is much more than just a tablet. It’s a connection to the best of Google- an improved version of Jelly Bean and more entertaining than ever before – all available on Google Play,” the company said.

Further features include more than nine hours of HD video playback, Gmail, Chrome, Google+ and YouTube apps as well as ebooks and film watching.

HumanIPO reported earlier this week on the FNB eWallet, which allows non-customers to use the smartphone banking application.
