Google reported a spike in search terms related to the Oscars during the awards ceremony on Sunday night.
The search giant revealed the top five most searched for nominees were, in order, Jennifer Lawrence, Daniel Day-Lewis, Anne Hathaway, Life of Pi and Les Miserables.
Unique moments in the ceremony prompted surges in particular search terms, with First Lady Michelle Obama’s introduction of the Best Picture nominees causing searches for “Michelle Obama” to jump to 4,500 per minute.
Films “Zero Dark Thirty” and “Skyfall” tied for sound editing, prompting a spike in searches for “tie” to 5,000 searches per minute, with Google revealing many people wanted to know whether there had ever been a tie in the Oscars before.
Host Seth MacFarlane was “visited” by William Shatner dressed as Captain Kirk, prompting 1,500 searches for “kirk” per minute.
In the lead up to the ceremony, Google produced a “search winner”, naming &ddquo;Argo” the winner in search volume terms, with Les Miserables, Lincoln, Django Unchained and Life of Pi taking the following four most searched places.
