South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) acting chief operating officer (COO) Hlaudi Motsoeneng has been ordained as a priest, saying “real” education was more important than tertiary programmes, according to a report.
Earlier this year South African public protector Thuli Mandonsela condemned the appointment of Motsoeneng, saying it was irregular and based on fraudulent claims by Motsoeneng he had passed matriculation exams.
The New Age reported today Motsoeneng has been awarded a diploma in Christian Fellowship from the Emmanuel Christian Seminary.
“We need people who are educated and not certificated,” he was quoted as saying, taking a stab at the public protector’s report.
“I am very glad that the church recognised me when I’m still alive,” he said.
“Personally I think it’s important that people can see that I have done well. If you look at my history I am a very caring person; I care for people and that is what God wants. I have also done well for the SABC. I think that churches should help people when it comes to issues of culture and ubuntu.”
