Yahoo! is facing significant staff unrest after a “plethora” of employees leaked an internal human resources letter to the media which brings an abrupt end to their flexible working options.
Marissa Mayer, Chief Executive of the web giant, is driving the policy change which will force even those who only work one or two days a week into the office, according to All Things D.
The leaked memo states: “Speed and quality are often sacrificed when we work from home. We need to be one Yahoo!, and that starts with physically being together.”
The changes are expected to come into force by June, but Karia Swisher, Editor at All Things D, said a “plethora” of the 11,500 employees were “very irked”.
The memo adds: “Some of the best decisions and insights come from hallway and cafeteria discussions, meeting new people, and impromptu team meetings.
“Speed and quality are often sacrificed when we work from home.”
Mayer, a former chief at Google, only took over in July 2012 and refused to take maternity leave in October when her first child was born.
The company was ranked in the Top 50 Best Places to Work by Business Insider in 2013.
