Industrial action has caused delays at the South African Post Office, with Telkom warning its customers that a backlog in the delivery of statements is a possibility.
During the postal service delays, subscribers are advised to contact Telkom for information regarding outstanding payment and balance amounts.
Thanks to mobile technology, customers are able to access account balances through Telkom’s balance enquiry SMS system.
In order to access accounts, customers must SMS their 10 digit landline telephone number, followed by a space, then the account holder’s’ identity number to 012 321 0210.
Once the SMS has been sent, a message will automatically be sent back to the relevant mobile containing information regarding the current balance of the account, the due amount and due date for payment, the last recorded payment as well as a date for when the last payment was received.
Furthermore, customers are also able to access their account balances through the Telkom App for both Android devices and iPad. The Telkom App can be downloaded for free from the Google Play store and the Apple App store.
