South African radio personality Gareth Cliff will be launching a radio show over messaging platform WeChat as of May 1.
Cliff, who left 5fm last month after 10 years, will head a new platform – CliffCentral – which will be unscripted and uncensored.
“CliffCentral is not just an online radio station. It will be multi-faceted and free from suspensions, restrictions or BCCSA complaints,” said Cliff.
“We’re inviting you to share in real conversations about everything that happens in our world – everything we all experience every day – what makes us think… makes us laugh… makes us cry….. makes us angry… inspires us… makes us human. It’s about the stuff that connects us on this journey called Life. CliffCentral.com is our home and you can join us from wherever you are in the world.”
Cliff, who has been joined by the majority of his former 5fm team, said the platform will be broadcasting live all day with “some well-known names hosting regular shows as well as launching aspiring new talent”.
WeChat has been gaining momentum in South Africa, with South African creative awards the Loeries launching on the platform, enabling delegates to connect more easily.
