Telkom has launched an entrepreneurship programme for women and young people, aimed at encouraging young business-minded individuals to start and grow their own businesses.
The initiative has space for 350 people and will first be launched in Gauteng, Free State and the Northern Cape.
The Telkom Foundation has partnered with the University of Pretoria to deliver the project, which will select candidates from databases of various government agencies and other organisations working with entrepreneurs.
Sarah Mthintso, Telkom Foundation head, said: “Entrepreneurship is an important vehicle towards job creation and it is for this reason that the foundation is investing in empowering entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs with the requisite skills and knowledge needed to venture into this area.”
The funding will accommodate 100 unemployed youth graduates in Gauteng, 100 unemployed youths with no businesses in the Northern Cape and 100 small business owners in Free State.
A further 50 business women in Gauteng will be trained and mentored.
The programmes are either five to 10 days long, or 30-50 days long.
