Instagram now has one million people using the photo sharing service each month, despite a January crisis which saw it rapidly lose daily visitors.
The milestone was revealed on the app’s blog this morning and documents its rise from a small office with “few redeeming qualities” in October 2010 to its current position as a Facebook-owned company reaching people around the world.
HumanIPO reported in January how the ‘Instasham’ crisis was costing it half its users on daily basis (dropping from 16.3 million to 7.6 million) as outrage spread concerning privacy setting changes which seemingly allowed the company to sell photos uploaded to the app.
Kevin Systrom, co-founder of Instagram, said: “Images have the ability to connect people from all backgrounds, languages and cultures. They connect us to aid workers halfway across the world in Sudan, to entrepreneurs in San Francisco and even to events in our own backyards.
“So from our team to the hundred million people who call Instagram home, we say thank you. Thank you for sharing your world and inspiring us all to do the same.”
Instagram were faced with new competition in December when Twitter reacted to the photo sharing service removing itself from the micro-blogging site by launching its own photo filtering service.
