The Complaints and Compliance Commission (CCC) of the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) will today hear a complaint from the South African Police Service (SAPS) in connection to political advertisements by opposition party the Democratic Alliance (DA).
HumanIPO reported earlier this month the DA lodged a complaint with ICASA against the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), alleging the state broadcaster’s withdrawal of DA adverts amounted to censorship.
ICASA began hearing the case last week, but the SABC decided to hire a new legal team prompting the case to be adjourned, with the DA adverts resuming broadcasting in the interim.
ICASA said it has received a complaint from SAPS regarding the DA adverts being aired by the SABC, but did not detail the nature of the complaint.
The regulator said following consultation with the parties involved, the CCC decided a public hearing of the complaint would be most efficient in dealing with the issue.
The public hearing is to begin today at the ICASA head office in Johannesburg.
