CliffCentral, South African radio personality Gareth Cliff’s new “unradio” platform, was launched yesterday on mobile messaging platform WeChat and Comedy Central Africa on DStv.
HumanIPO reported last month Cliff – who quit 5fm – would be launching an uncensored and unscripted radio show on WeChat, while two weeks later the radio host announced he would also be hosting a breakfast show on Comedy Central.
The breakfast show will run five days a week from 7:35am to 9am, from which point Cliff will host “well-known personalities and experts in their fields as well as aspiring untapped talent”.
Cliff cited a stagnant, predictable and unoriginal industry as reasons for the move from the traditional radio medium to “unradio”, radio everywhere but on radio.
The show is also available for download as a podcast an hour after the show has been aired.
HumanIPO reported last month Cliff predicted radio was going to die, and he hoped to hold its funeral.
CliffCentral also features members of Cliff’s former 5fm team, including Leigh-Ann Mol, Mabale Moloi, Damon Kalvari and Siya Sangweni-Fynn.
